ive had a similar situation with my son. He had been peeing on the regular toilet since 2.5 but at 3 yrs still nt trained for #2. He refused to go poop on the potty or the regular toilet. He would always ask for a diaper when he needed to poop and then when he finished pooping in the diaper he would take it off himself. at 3 yrs old i decided no he needs to be fully potty trained since he would start prek soon. i didnt give him a diaper when he asked to poop. i refused and said he needed to go on the toilet. guess what--he refused--for a whole 5 days. he kept his poop in to the point where he couldnt even walk or eat. I caved in at day 5 b/c i didn't want to cause him problems.... i couldnt believe how stubborn he was. I gave up and decided he could poop in diapers until he was old enough to understand HES TOO BIG to wear diapers. i let a few MONTHs go by letting him poop in a diaper. he turned 4--started pre-k..i figured one day ill bring up pooping in the toilet. I said u can wear ur diaper but u need to sit on the toilet(with the diaper on)...i bribed him (i promised him a surprise) and magically he agreed. on day two i offered another bribe and asked him to sit on the diaper ( this time i cut a hole in the diaper) and he was surpised to see poop coming thru his diaper but then laughed. next day i said no more diaper...and he finally sat on the toilet and poooped...from then on no more diapers (at age 4 finally). don't lose hope.

Well he is three it is a phase they go through where they don't listen. however rewards are pretty great at getting the kids to do stuff, the rockem Elmo is a great idea, sorry to hear it isn't working, you might try putting him in big boy undies and telling him if he goes in them he has to keep them on for a little bit. I know it seems harsh but we where out of town for the day and our little boy peed in his pants on the way home in his big boy pants, we where in the middle of nowhere and he had already went through all the extra clothes we brought along. after that short wait in those itchy wet shorts he was relieved when we got home and you know what, he hasn't peed his pants in a year now because of it!

I can sympathize. My son turned 3 in early October, and is COMPLETELY resistant to potty training. We have tried, but he WILL NOT go on the potty and 100% of the time he will go in his pull-up immediately after getting off the potty. He says he doesn't want to use the potty EVER and wants to use only his diapers. I spoke to his pediatrician who advised laying off for a while, as trying to train a completely resistant child is only setting us both up for failure and frustration. She reminded me that 98% of children are trained by age 4, so it will come -- now just isn't the right time. That sounds like it might be good advice for you, too. Lay off for 2-3 weeks, then try again, and repeat as necessary. Good luck!
